Natural England wanted to gain insights into how the public responds to landscape change.
We worked with visualisations produced by Land Use Consultants in partnership with CCRI to test people’s attitudes towards changes in eight different landscape types across England.
The changes encompassed wilder-looking landscapes, wetter agricultural contexts and different field margin types all related to the outcomes from existing agri-environment schemes (AES). We used focus groups, surveys and mobile ethnography to examine people’s relationship with the countryside and also used various techniques such as video diaries and online games. The research has helped to increase the body of knowledge about public perceptions of AES-driven landscape change.
